Placements, internships and industry projects

The University of East London works with industry to source a wide range of work-based learning opportunities for our students.

We work flexibly with employers to ensure that both students and placement hosts benefit from the arrangement and receive support during the process.

We will work with you to ensure that academic requirements are met if the placement is embedded into the programme.

We are always seeking interesting and challenging opportunities for students to work on placements, or group projects, to provide them with industrial experience which will enable them to meet their learning objectives.

Placement hosts and project sponsors should provide a constructive and supportive working environment, and in return will gain additional resource which can be used to manage projects, conduct valuable research, and support teams.

We will work with you to target the most relevant programmes to ensure that you are sourcing the right talent for your organisation.

To offer a placement, internship or industry project please email placements@uel.ac.uk

Diversity of Thought - social mobility programme

Here at the University of East London we understand diversity of talent and diversity of thought.

That’s because our students aren’t your usual recruits: with 158 nationalities represented, 70% from black and ethnic minority backgrounds and 45% the first in their family to go to university.

What’s more, they’ve benefited from our Mental Wealth Programme, giving them the resilience and soft skills to thrive in the rapidly changing world of work.

Your company gets a competitive edge by recruiting diverse thinkers with different viewpoints based on different life experiences. This drives customer understanding, innovation, knowledge and profits.

Together we can remove the barriers that have traditionally stood in the way of our students being recruited by top employers such as yourselves.

That’s why we’ve established our Diversity of Thought Employer Partnership Programme.

This two-year programme brings our top employers and our finest students together on a bespoke pathway of engagement, involving mentoring and work experience, based on your needs and capacity to provide support.

This is a mutually beneficial way for students to showcase their talent and for your organisations to increase your brand awareness and your reach and to understand the benefits of having a diverse talent pipeline.

We will work closely with you to co-create a tailored programme of interventions that will provide students with insight about your organisation, your recruitment processes and the skills necessary to secure graduate employment with your organisation or within the industry.

To find out more about the Diversity of Thought Programme email us.

Careers Fairs

We hold two large annual careers fairs which bring together a range of employers and guest speakers across a number of industries. This is a fantastic opportunity to engage with our diverse student and graduate population and to promote your organisation and the opportunities you have on offer.

We have over 15,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students from 135 different countries studying across 284 degree courses.

The event is free for employers.

What our students and partners say

Funded Internship Scheme

The scheme has been great for us and the students, and UEL supported us through the recruitment process. The students we interviewed were all great candidates and we have now taken on one of our interns full-time. I would encourage businesses to take part - it's a great way to source talent for your organisation and to support students with the experience they need alongside their studies."

Mayor's Fund for London

The UEL Internship Scheme provides an opportunity to engage with talented students, introducing new ideas and skills to our business. This year, we invited a UEL Creative Writing student, to join our marketing and operations team. Following a successful internship, we were pleased to offer him a permanent role."

Build Recruitment

Careers Fair

We have a number of graduate opportunities and we have UEL graduates attending the assessment day tomorrow."

Katarzyna

Capita

Hackathon event

What started as a simple activity turned into something very entrepreneurial and educational for our future career journeys. The pitching skills, teamwork spirit and support we acquired were phenomenally priceless. I hope you maintain the project for other students to experience the same."
