Sports scholars
We are the most ambitious and the most improved university in the UK for sport, our High Performance Support is paving the way in creating our world class athletic super stars.
Our sports scholars include Olympians and senior internationals who represent the University of East London at national and international university competitions.
Why choose us?
We're the choice of some of the UK's most exciting young sports stars, including Adam Gemili who won gold in the 4 x 100m relay at the 2017 World Championships, world-class swimmer Aimee Willmott and European Cruiserweight boxing champion Lawrence Okolie.
Our department has a comprehensive portfolio of industry links with organisations such as ActiveNewham and the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. We've also partnered with West Ham Foundation to deliver some of our courses, providing first-hand experience with a Premier League club.
Our students have access to a range of student-led and teacher-led initiatives to support them in their studies and beyond. Our SMILES project allows students in their final year to peer mentor their fellow students in earlier years of study, providing first-class support and guidance. Our staff will also help you find a placement that suits you and fits in with your studies and other commitments.
Our facilities
Located on our Docklands Campus, SportsDock is home to Sport at UEL and is where much of our teaching on our courses takes place. Opened in 2011, the £21 million facility was the training base for TeamUSA in the lead up to the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Since then we've also hosted sports teams and organisations both professional and amateur, as well as competitions on a local and global scale. Our Stratford Campus is where are industry standard scientific analysis equipment is located. Both our Exercise Physiology labs and Biomechanics labs are serviced by full-time laboratory technicians.
What we're researching
As you would expect from a university that's such a close neighbour of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, our research is closely linked to the legacy of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The focus of our work is twofold: to contribute to scientific knowledge about improving sports performance and to enhance the quality of life of people in our local community. Our research explores areas such as positive sport psychology, exercise physiology, nutrition and physical activity and wellbeing.
We're committed to civic engagement - learning through real-life projects that benefit society - and our research impacts positively on the lives of our students and local people.

Sport can influence your work ethic in so many ways. I think as an athlete you need to understand how your body works, the biomechanics – and that helps me when I'm in the blocks to really get the biggest first step that I can."
