Landscape Architecture: Professional Life & Practice (Mental Wealth)

The aims of this module are:

    1. To explore aspects of UK professional practice in landscape architecture in depth

    2. To engage with landscape practitioners, professional environments and live projects

    3. To further develop knowledge of the ethical, legal, policy and professional context in which landscape architecture operates in the UK

    4. To explore professional opportunities and career directions

    Landscape Architecture: Theory & Contexts

The aims of this module are:

    1. To explore and critique through option choice, contemporary theories and practices in landscape architecture in relation to allied disciplines in depth

    2. To consider how current practice is influenced by past & present social formations, by contemporary concerns, and by other fields

    3. To expand knowledge and understanding of advanced techniques, concerns and possibilities in landscape architecture

Landscape Architecture: Basic Tools & Principles of Design

The aims of this module are:

    1. Begin to apply key themes in landscape architecture on small sites, and as small interventions on larger sites.

    2. Consider how landscape design can express concepts and respond to functional requirements.

    3. To introduce current material concerns and creative possibilities in small landscape interventions.

    4. Participate in elements of 'live' design and construction, led by qualified practitioners.

    5. Survey sites, generate ideas, gather context information relevant to design development and represent work at a variety of scales using different techniques.

Landscape Architecture: Essential Tools & Principles of Design

The aims of this module are:

    1. Begin to apply key contemporary themes in landscape architecture on larger sites and in landscape masterplans.

    2. Consider how landscape design practice is influenced by technologies, processes and theories.

    3. Introduce current material concerns and creative possibilities in landscape architecture on larger sites circa 1 km2 -5km2.

    4. Participate in elements of 'live' design and construction, led by qualified practitioners.

    5. Develop a design brief and explore the  module themes through a major design project, working at a variety of scales through to detailed design.

Landscape Architecture: Advanced Tools & Complexity in Design 1

The aims of this module are:

    1. Apply contemporary themes and their critique in complex landscapes at a range of scales including regional scale green infrastructure.

    2. Explore application of diverse technologies, processes and theories.

    3. Explore the precedents and issues connected with complex sites for example post- industrial landscapes, and the policy and theoretical frameworks in which these complex issues reside.

    4. Participate in elements of 'live' design and construction, led by qualified practitioners.

    5. To explore module themes through a landscape planning and analysis study, including high level design intervention, across a wide area, identifying sites for further exploration, working at a variety of scales.

Landscape Architecture: Advanced Tools & Complexity in Design 2

The aim of this module are: to resolve application of contemporary themes and their critique in complex landscapes and integrate them with aspects of professional practice and theoretical frameworks, through completion of a major design project, working at a variety of scales through to detailed design.

    Thesis

The aims of this module are:

    1. To explore and critique a key strand of contemporary landscape architecture of personal interest, developing on from the earlier modules

    2. To develop a personal direction through in depth reflection, critical, theoretical and academic writing /exploration
