Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP)
The Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) scheme helps businesses in the UK to innovate and grow. It does this by linking them with an academic or research organisation and a graduate.
A KTP enables a business to bring in new skills and the latest academic thinking to deliver a specific, strategic innovation project through a knowledge-based partnership.

Innovation Vouchers
The Innovation Voucher scheme is primarily aimed at attracting interaction with SMEs, giving them access to tailored support. Vouchers could be used in a number of ways. For example, make an improvement to an existing product or service, or scope new ideas.
It could also be used to develop training and development to support growth or set up a new laboratory facility. Preference will be given to those projects that could lead to additional future collaborative interactions.
The value of the voucher will not exceed 50% of the cost of the project.

Sport, Health & Communities
UEL has a track record of research geared towards our local East London community, and have expertise in the areas of Health Promotion and Wellbeing, Biomedical Science, Public Health, Pharmacology, Podiatry and Physiotherapy. Our research groups benefit from the expertise of experienced researchers working within interprofessional groups. Our increasing numbers of PhD students make a major contribution to the overall research capacity of the School. Our former Institute of Health & Human Development worked with public health institutions from all over the world but had particularly strong links to the NHS and local authority organisations in the UK, London and East London.
At our Docklands Campus, we have SportsDock, a world-class sports facility which hosted Team USA in the build-up to the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. SportsDock now hosts our Sports Science department who are always looking at ways to be faster, higher and stronger.
Sustainability, Energy & Places
Established in 2001, the Sustainability Research Institute was one of the first dedicated sustainability research institutes in the UK and we have since built an excellent international reputation by applying our groundbreaking research and development in the real world.
Our work focuses on a range of emerging research fields and pressing urban and rural sustainability challenges and is centred on three key themes:
Green infrastructure - spanning areas such peatland ecology and conservation, the design and monitoring of urban green infrastructure and invertebrate conservation
Resource Management - encompassing materials engineering, energy efficiency and the circular economy.
Sustainable Living - covering adaptive governance and community engagement and asset management. The SRI is a prime example of UEL's tradition of cross-disciplinary knowledge transfer. Working with partners across the UK and around the world, our work addresses the critical issues for creating more resilient urban and rural communities. Our results orientated innovation expertise, state of art test sites and facilities, and cross-sectoral networks allows us to punch far above our weight.
Computing & Technology
Our research work is renowned in the UK and across the world, and we've developed partnerships so we can transfer our knowledge to a range of industrial, commercial, policy-making and government departments.
As a result, our work has a major impact on IT products and services. We're also improving public awareness of the social, political and financial impact of information and communication technologies.
Our Software Architecture Research Group covers cloud computing, data centres, energy efficiency, software design, documentation and evaluation and systems modelling.
Helping the fight against cybercrime, our Information Security and Digital Forensics Research Group, Dr Paolo Falcarin is leading a major European Union project to improve mobile software protection.
Certified Green IT trainers, Gaurav Malik and Mike Kretsis currently work with small and medium-sized businesses in London to help reduce their carbon footprints.
Architecture & Engineering
UEL academics have advised on the development of a new capital city in India and the reconstruction of a historic palace in Santiago de Chile. UEL has also worked with the London Mayor's office and the London Legacy Development Corporation on the use of public space and worked with the US Green Building Council to develop new sustainability standards.
Engineers try to make things work better and more efficiently and our researchers are helping to lead the way in a number of areas, including communications technology and environmental engineering.
UEL is currently researching networks for 5G and beyond, along with developing and designing circuits and systems for communication technologies, as well as applying new methods to recover further information from seismic data.
