FDSC NURSING ASSOCIATE VIA EMPLOYED APPRENTICESHIP

Read about our FDSC Nursing Associate via Employed Apprenticeship course.

ABOUT THE COURSE

Overview

Approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Council

The Nursing Associate is a highly trained support role to deliver effective, safe and responsive nursing care in and across a wide range of health and care settings. Nursing Associates work independently, and with others, under the leadership and direction of a Registered Nurse within defined parameters, to deliver care in line with an agreed plan. Nursing Associates will have a breadth of knowledge and a flexible, portable skill set to serve local health populations, in a range of settings covering pre-life to end of life. The Nursing Associate apprentice must meet the 15 standards as set out in the Care Certificate, prior to taking their End Point Assessment.

Responsibilities and duty of the role

Working within the sphere of nursing the Nursing Associate delivers high quality person-centred care across health and social care settings. The Nursing Associate works within all aspects of the nursing process, taking account of the perspectives and pathways of individuals, their families and/or carers providing holistic and person-centred care to individuals, supporting the registered nurse in the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of care.

End Point Assessment (EPA)

On successfully completing the Foundation Degree and meeting the "gateway" requirements' in agreement with your employer you will be put forward for the EPA. You will be required to undergo two professional discussions. This is carried out independently of the university and employer by an independent body and is specific for this apprenticeship standard.

DELIVERY

This 2-year and 3 month (inc. EPA) Apprenticeship is a mixed delivery model and involves working with key employers. UEL's delivery site is based at our Stratford campus, and part of the scheme is to carry out practice rotations within key areas in the four field of nursing to meet the Nursing Associate Standards as set out by Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC 2018). Apprentices will attend the University once a week and undertake external practice placements alongside their usual place of employment.

Entry Requirements: Potential apprentices will need to be employed in the field of study (see occupational profile) and have GCSE English and Mathematics at A-C grade or grade 4-9 or equivalent Functional Skills at Level 2.

Fees per Apprentice for whole duration (paid on a monthly basis and is an estimate):
Levy Employer: £15,000
Apprentice: £0
Non-levy employer: please email degreeapprenticeships@uel.ac.uk or call 020 8223 2337 for more information. The apprentice will not be required to pay any fees.

Programme Content: Please see the Nursing Associate programme specification.

Progression routes: On completion of the programme and with employer consent, you would be eligible to apply for APL onto the BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing programme.

We aim to be flexible in our approach and discuss with each employer the delivery strategy that best meets their business requirements and those of their apprentices.
The Higher and Degree Apprenticeships programmes at UEL have been created with employers for employers. Contact us if:

  • you would like to become an employer partner of UEL and let us help you find the right apprentices for you;
  • you are interested in any of the apprenticeship degree programmes we are currently running or the new ones we are developing;
  • you would like to explore creating new apprenticeships and join a Trailblazer group with us.
