Halls Guarantor Scheme
The Residential Life team in partnership with UEL's Student Money and Advice Rights Team (SMART) have a Halls Guarantor Scheme which offer new starters the opportunity to apply for financial support for the £500 accommodation advance rent.
The Halls Guarantor Scheme is not a loan, but an agreement to postpone the £500 advance rent. Rather than the payment being required during the application stages, the £500 will be split equally into the student’s payment plan throughout the academic year. Students must pay the £250 deposit to be considered for this scheme and be in receipt of student finance.
In exceptional circumstance, SMART can also offer additional financial support to new students.
How to apply
- Receive your provisional room offer from the Residential Life Team
- Pay your £250 deposit
- Email proof of £250 deposit payment to the Residential Life Team via email: residentiallife@uel.ac.uk
- In your email, confirm you are a NEW Home or EU UEL Student, confirm your UEL Student ID number and confirm you wish to be considered for the Halls Guarantor Scheme
Your email will then be acknowledged by the Residential Life Team, and if you fit the eligibility criteria, your details will be passed to SMART for consideration. Your accommodation application will be not be processed until SMART confirm if support is available.
If SMART are unable to support you via the scheme, you will be required to pay the full £750 before your room offer is confirmed.
If SMART can support you via the scheme, your room offer will be confirmed ready for you to accept.
Students under 18
Unfortunately we cannot house any students under 18 years old. The preferred option in this case is for the students to live in with a local family (i.e. a Homestay) until they are 18 and then apply to move into Halls. Please contact us if this applies to you.
