Candan Ertubey

Candan has many years' experience of running Masters courses in psychology. She developed two Masters courses when at the University of Bedfordshire: "Psychological Approaches to Health and Management" and a conversion course "Applied Psychology". More generally, Candan has over 30 years of experience lecturing in psychology, with specific expertise in Exceptional Children, modern psychometrics and Cross-Cultural Psychology.

Candan did her PhD at Goldsmiths' college, University of London. It was a comparative study of school age children in England and Turkey, looking at personality characteristics such as perceived control and its antecedents which may be informed by culture. The completed work was awarded the best doctorate award by the International Association of Cross-Cultural Psychology (IACCP), significantly because of its use of a specialist psychometric method called Item Response Theory. In recent years Candan worked closely with colleagues in medical schools in the UK to promote teaching diversity and cultural competence. She has trained on a woman's leadership programme and is now coaching and mentoring staff from diverse background towards leadership roles within NHS.

Candan collaborates nationally and internationally, to do research in education, health and workplace settings. She has published in the areas of culture and education, parent training, culture and health in industry and human potential and wellbeing. She has given key talks and contributed to symposiums and various conferences nationally and internationally. For the last 10 years she has contributed passionately to the organisation 'Diversity in Medical and Allied Health' to help drive the need to diversify the training and practice of the medical profession. This involves contributing to conference organisation, working with universities across the country and writing collaboratively.
