Provide tuition in Mathematics to the Engineers studying in the ACE school, endeavouring to get the students to appreciate the consequences and limitations of the inevitable compromises and simplifications they make to their mathematical modelling, for ease of solution.
Examining the pedagogical nature of the differences in the mathematics requirements of Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineers : the subsets of Applied Mathematics that they need in their skill set, and the context with which they use it
My aim is to promote the usefulness of mathematics to the Engineer, in a manner that they find appealing: whilst mathematics underpins all the science and engineering disciplines it remains a struggle to many who find the concepts alien to their way of thinking. To this end I need to learn how to appreciate the way engineers think and best absorb information and ideas, and adapt lectures and tutorial material to reflect this. I apply this premise to the material I deliver across the modules:
