Andrew Osman is a graphic designer and Senior Lecturer in BA Graphic Design, specialising in vector drawing, layout, typography and typeface design.
OVERVIEW
Andrew Osman is a graphic designer and Senior Lecturer in BA Graphic Design, specialising in vector drawing, layout, typography and typeface design. He graduated from Central Saint Martins BA (Hons) Graphic Design in 2008.
He has since worked in-house and for small design studios in addition to regular collaborations with independent designers, architects and artists before joining UEL in 2012.
Andrew's typographic work was featured in Tate Publishing's Henri Matisse: The Cut-Outs (dir. Fraser Muggeridge Studio) and was later expanded into the branding of the counterpart exhibition at MoMA (dir. Mike Abbink).
Other designs have featured in the branding of The Royal Academy's What Is Radical Today (dir. Each London) and Southampton's Titanic Story at Southampton SeaCity Museum (dir. Wood McGrath). The focus of Andrew's research is in drawing methodologies and alternative modes of production within typeface design.
Operating in the Visual Arts cluster Andrew works principally with Level 4 and 5 students, teaching practical and soft skills.
He is involved with teaching Mental Wealth and Industry 4.0 readiness and the presentation and promotion of Visual Arts' Cultural Manoeuvres programme. He has travelled with UEL students to workshops in Spain and the American Midwest.
CURRENT RESEARCH
Andrew is currently working with The Digital Fabrication Lab (dfUEL) to manufacture letterpress type.
TEACHING
BA (Hons) Graphic Design
BA Graphic Design at UEL combines the study of traditional visual communication with the possibilities of emerging technologies.
