Amanda Francis is a senior lecturer and module leader. She co-leads the first-year Fine Art programme with Lecturer Si Sapsford.
OVERVIEW
Amanda Francis is a senior lecturer and module leader. She co-leads the first-year Fine Art programme with Lecturer Si Sapsford. These involve weekly seminars, which are devised to introduce students to principles of fine art practice. The seminars provide a forum to show students artwork and discuss, related topics and concepts. As a cohort Students have an opportunity to build a sense of community, while individually developing a capacity to articulate ideas.
There are also a series springboard projects to induct students to the workshops, in order to enhance their skills and confidence.
Amanda Francis has an MFA from The Slade School of Art and BA Hons from University of East London. She has taught in various UK institutions including, Kingston University, Wimbledon College of Art and Bristol University.

CURRENT RESEARCH
I am a visual artist, I trained as a sculptor however many of the 'things' I've made struggle to inhabit that realm. I work in a range of media and enjoy learning new skills and processes to realise my ideas. This keeps things fresh and in the present.
The work is always shifting, and I've learnt to embrace this as part of its 'being' in the world. I've made all kinds of stuff; soft and hard, I also like making works on paper. I am perpetually preoccupied with 'identity' - specifically the continuous nature of the process, which keeps everything and everyone in flux.
I have found many ways to discuss and muse upon this subject; some of the things I've made have had utilitarian properties, others have been precariously unstable.
The odd piece has even been in danger of becoming ordinary. Current work considers Space/place and its role in the process of individuation, by focusing on a local and subjective geography, based upon memory and nostalgia.
